As we're driving out of the subdivision (yes, in a minivan - how trite, eh?) I ask my three sons, "Hey - do you know what today is?" After mumbling/grumbling from the teens & a blank look from the 7 year old, I said, "Well, look as we drive - you may figure it out." Mouth notices the flags the local Optimist group puts out (for a fee, naturally) and comments, so I said, "Yep, today is Flag Day!"
At this point, Little Dude pipes up from the backseat, "Oh, that means I need to get out my new flag football kit & play today for Flag Day!"
I'm seriously doubting the validity of the educational experience in this school district. Seriously.
